Who it is for
Anyone who needs something from a courthouse and does not know where to start: a copy of a divorce judgment, a deed, a marriage license, the status of a case, or simply the right phone number. Louisiana keeps most of these records parish by parish, and each clerk's office runs its own website, fees, and online systems. This guide puts the official details in one place, in plain language, and sends you to the office that can actually help.
How we verify
- Official sources first. Clerk names and contact details come from the Louisiana Clerks of Court Association directory and each clerk's own website. Population, area, and parish boundaries come from the U.S. Census Bureau. Statements of law link to the statute or code article on the Louisiana Legislature's website.
- A second check. Every parish page, court overview, and public records guide was written from that research and then checked, claim by claim, by a separate reviewer against the same official sources. Anything that could not be supported was corrected or removed.
- Conflicts are stated, not guessed. When two official sources disagree, such as two addresses or two fees, the page says so and tells you to call the office.
- Clerk practice is not law. When a clerk's office describes its own practice, the page says it is that office's practice. When a clerk's website states the law differently from the statute, the page follows the statute.
- Dated. Each parish page shows when its contact details were last checked, and every page lists its sources.
What this guide does not do
- It is not a government website and is not affiliated with any court, clerk's office, government agency, or law firm.
- It does not search court records or sell background checks. It explains which office holds a record and how to ask for it.
- It does not give legal advice. If you need advice about your situation, talk to a lawyer licensed in Louisiana.
- It does not accept payment to change what a page says.
Keeping it current
Clerks are elected, and offices change hours, fees, and online systems. Every outside link is checked automatically each month, and clerk details are rechecked after elections and on a regular schedule. If you spot something out of date, please report a correction.
